Natural and social conditions

The natural area of 3.360km2, there are six administrative divisions including a town and 5districts. The town of Phan Rang - Thap Cham is the province, the center of politics, economy and culture of the province, 350 km away from Ho Chi Minh City and 60 km from Cam Ranh Airport, 105 km from the city of Nha Trang and 110 km from Da Lat City, convenient for transportation and socio-economic exchange and development.
Topography:
Ninh Thuan has a lower terrain from the northwest to the southeast, with 3 types of terrain: mountains accounting for 63.2%, hilly mountain accounting for 14.4%, coastal plain accounting for 22.4% of the whole natural area of the province.

Climate and hydrology:
 Ninh Thuan has tropical monsoon climate with typical characteristics of dryness, lots

of wind, strong evaporation and the annual average temperature of 26-27^oC, average rainfall of 700-800 mm in Phan Rang and ascending to over 1,100 mm in the mountains, the air humidity of 75-77%.
It has 2 distinct seasons, rainy season from May 9^th -11^th and dry season from December 8^th of the following year.
Water sources in Ninh Thuan are unevenly distributed, mainly in the north and center of the province. Groundwater takes up 1 / 3 the average amount of the whole country.

Land resources:

Total natural area of 3,360 km2 of which 60,113 hectares of agricultural land, 159,895 ha of forest land, 12,673 hectares of land for special use, housing land of 2880 hectares, and the remaining 100,443 ha of unused land, rivers and rocky
Marine Resources:

The coastline is of 105 km long, the province's fisheries are in emerged water of rich and diverse marine resources with over 500 species of sea products. There is also the diversified ecosystem of coral with over 120 species and extremely rare sea turtles are only in Ninh Thuan. There are many coastal bays and lagoons suitable for development of tourism and aquaculture development, and seed-shrimp production is a strength of the fishery

Natural Resources, Minerals:

- Metal minerals containing Wonfram, molybdenum, tin.
- Non-metallic minerals containing quartz crystals, glass sand, clay, ceramic ...
- Constructional materials include granite with a total reserve of about 850 million m³, the prospects for their exploitation of about 130 million m³, sandstone limestone of about 1.5 million m³, coral limestone mainly in the coastline with the reserve of 2.5 million tonnes of CaO; clay additives, building stone;

II / SOCIAL CONDITIONS:
Population and workforce:

The average population was 565 thousand people in 2005, forecasting about 614 thousand people by 2010, including the urban population of 34.2%.
The average population density of 166 people per 1 km2, unevenly distributed, mainly in the coastal plain. Residential communities include three main ethnics such as Kinh ethnic group accounting for 78%, 12% of Chams, 9%eof Raglai, the rest are other ethnic groups.
Population at the working age was approximately 310 thousand people, taking up 54.3%, in 2010 it is expected to have 336 thousand people. Proportion of trained workers reached about 14% and will increase to 25-30% in 2010. The above abundant labor resources will meet the labor needs for investment projects in the area.
Education and training:

System of common education and boarding schools formed in all districts and communes. System of trainning schools includes college of Pedagogy, the School of Politics, Center 2 - University of Water Resources, Vocational Training schools and Centres of the general technical and vocational training, in which the laborors will be trained and improved their specialization and skills.

Health 

Provincial health system has hospitals of 800 beds; regional hospitals are equipped with modern facilities and the specialized medical centers. All the districts, communes and wards have the health centers and clinics. Currently, the province is building a new hospital providing 500 beds modernizing equipment meeting the demands of examination and treatment for people.
